“Qui bene cantat bis orat”
This phrase, generally attributed to St. Augustine of Hippo, is roughly translated as “one who sings well prays twice” and suggests that music takes our prayers to a higher level. For over sixty years William C. Teague and Donald L. Smith dedicated their lives to fostering the musical prayer life of the congregation and community of St. Mark’s Cathedral, Shreveport, Louisiana. These two remarkable gentlemen led the corporate worship for innumerable Sunday and festival services and graced many lives by serving as advisors and participants in family weddings, baptisms, and funerals. Their faithful leadership assisted the St. Mark’s Cathedral family in reaching that higher plane of worship suggested by St. Augustine.
In exchange for participation in the St. Mark’s Cathedral Treble Choir a student, who might not otherwise be afforded such an opportunity, will earn a scholarship to St. Mark’s Cathedral School.
