The Choir Scholarship Trust

The purpose of The Choir Scholarship Trust is to provide the resources for a permanently endowed fund to establish a scholarship to St. Mark's Cathedral School, Shreveport, Louisiana.  This scholarship shall be need-based in accordance with St. Mark's Cathedral School policy and shall be named the William C. Teague and Donald L. Smith Choir Scholarship.

Objectives

• To foster academic and musical excellence in the life of the scholarship recipient.

• To provide the scholarship recipient with greater academic challenges and to promote pride in his or her academic achievements.

• To assist in the creation and development of a new generation of chorister outreach to the greater Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana community.



Scholarship Origin

In the summer of 2012,  St. Mark's Cathedral established an annual summer music camp which was free of charge and open to all children in the community ages 7-14. Campers needed no previous musical experience and were invited to come to St. Mark's to learn to sing and read music and to enjoy musical games and arts and crafts. The campers who participated in that first camp demonstrated a clear need for children living in the Shreveport/Bossier City area, without regard of financial limitations, to have an opportunity for excellent musical training combined with an outstanding education.
